Workshops

Partizipativer Produktionsworkshop I + II ('Participatory Production Workshop I + II')

In these workshops, the artist duo Carolin Lange & Dico Kruijsse open up their artistic practice and invite participants to jointly create large-format photograms that expand the existing artistic installation in the entrance area of the Spinelli grounds. Motifs for this collaborative artwork are to be found in the immediate surroundings. The basis for this is the analogue cyanotype process, also called collotype or blue printing, with its typical blue colouring. No previous knowledge is necessary; anyone interested from the age of 16 can take part.

In this workshop, participants will discover how fabrics and papers are made light-sensitive using environmentally friendly iron salts, and then how deep blue images are created with the help of sunlight and water. The workshop teaches the basics of the cyanotype process. Participants learn the technique in a playful setting and can then create their own cyanotypes at home. Participants will learn how the cyanotype process can be extended and manipulated by including additional natural substances. With lemon, coffee, spices or tea, many other shades can be created from the typical cyan blue. The workshop allows you to discover surprising chemical reactions of these substances beyond the basic processes and is aimed at anyone interested in making their own cyanotypes using natural materials and local conditions. The workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over. Previous experience is not necessary; prior participation in one of the introductory workshops is possible but not required.

Guided tours

What does a photograph look like that uses existing resources in a responsible way and is created with simple means and without long production chains? What role did the BUGA grounds and the city of Mannheim play in the process of creating Carolin Lange & Dico Kruijsse's large-scale installation? These site visits will provide insights into the artistic work that was created on the Spinelli grounds and is presented there in the entrance area, and into its participatory and sustainable project elements.
